The Nub of It All

You will not find your way through a constant push. You will not reach your perceived pinnacle by force of will or never-ending trying. Believe it or not, the struggle is not necessary. In fact, it is harmful. For the more you exert against your imagined challenges, the farther away from presence you are. So, drop it all. Let go of your effortful ways. Open your eyes and look upon yourself as if you are separate from who you are in the world…because, in fact, you are. And as you look, don’t you dare be harsh. For there is no judgment here. We are all given this chance to learn to correct ourselves and embrace a larger belonging. We are born infants in a world which leads us astray from the truth of who we really are. Only those who catch glimpses of this reality are able to wake up and be free. So, get curious about how you move through your day. Keep a watchful eye as to your habits and reactions – your feelings. Look within at your thoughts and the movement of your heart. Listen to your life. Observe how the world works and interacts but keep a larger view. Pay attention and open your heart and mind to inspiration. Take pauses. Be receptive to your learning. Eventually, the gift of freedom and unimaginable presence will bubble up within you, lifting you up and out of your misdirected ways, and bring you a sparkling and sustainable joy along with all the energy you need to do the work you are here to do. You will learn what love really is and how to extend it and embrace it. It is really that simple. You just get out of your own way. You learn to be.

Between

Between my hand

and your hand –

between doing

and being –

between yes

and no –

between the beat of the heart

and what the eyes see…

there is space.

Its gift is as big

or as small

as is our ability to be awake

to the quiet that reveals it.

One knows when they have encountered

a soul who is

acquainted with this space.

For to be in their presence,

is to be

showered with unconditional Love,

grace and attention.

Souls who have done the work,

know deeply that

our travels in life

are best navigated when

there is no rush

between this

and that.

Life is best lived with joy

when our inner brake

is awake

and effective

and we are watchful

of the spaces.

So, be alert to the openings.

Honor them.

The dance of life awaits.

Ask yourself this –

what lies between each breath taken?

This is It

The cat purring in my lap

while the birds sing their morning song…

My heartbeat,

strong and regular,

sending the vibration of vitality everywhere –

to my very fingertips and toes,

opening my eyes,

and lighting up my taste buds.

It travels past

all the aches and pains,

those spots that distract and annoy.

The pain cannot stop its movement,

but is touched by its energy –

kissed by the whispers of hope.

One day you won’t need this pain…

The promise of a new day

is the reliable reboot given every morning.

Perhaps this is the day

I will finally see,

not only with my eyes,

but with my whole being,

that

                 this is it.

No more will I wait

for my turn,

holding back and waiting

for that perfect moment

                that never comes.

Life is here now,

and ever so fleeting.

It passes before me,

it beats within me,

it connects me

to all that matters.

Life lives on through me

even when I am pressing the brakes.

It moves forward,

with or without me.

This is it –

the blessings are here.
